E-J Expanded Operations and Cogeneration
As a leader in cogeneration E-J completed turnkey projects for Sealcap Manufacturing in Long Island City, a major 42nd Street office building and Rockefeller University.
In order to keep pace with spiraling growth and changes in the market during the 80's, management at E-J decided to structure new operations that would concentrate on emerging industry trends: owners' representation on the complete construction package and data/communication networking.
E-J Technical Services, Inc. was created in 1984 to focus on the first trend, owners' representation. On projects of $500,000 to $20 million, E-J Technical Services provides overall project management, job-site supervision, and value engineering for the entire construction program as Owners' Representative. Additionally, E-J Technical Services serves real estate investors, owners, and lenders with a wide variety of inspection, evaluation, and engineering reports.
Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities
E-J is also highly qualified in the design and installation of electrical systems for the specialized needs of hospitals and other health care facilities. The firm has successfully completed a wide array of projects including an assignment as trade manager on a new construction and renovation job for Bronx-Lebanon Hospital (which resulted in a $2.5 million cost reduction and under-budget completion) and switchgear replacement for Beth Israel Hospital performed without interrupting electrical service. Additionally, turn-key installations of x-ray facilities, CAT Scan equipment, and power distribution at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and design and installation of a centralized Class E fire alarm system in the fifteen building Montefiore Hospital complex (where E-J was also responsible for electrical maintenance on a day-to-day basis and providing electrical systems for laboratories, operating rooms, laundry facilities and cooling towers) compliment the scope of E-J's hospital expertise. Of the many noteworthy jobs recently completed by E-J and its affiliates, a number have been directed and coordinated by Anthony E. Mann, a third generation family member who continues the tradition of hands-on leadership at E-J Electric. Tony Mann joined E-J in 1986 after receiving an Electrical Engineering degree from Tufts University and an MBA from the Kellogg Business School of Northwestern University. He had overall responsibility for the $22 million dollar expansion of the Long Island Railroad's new Car Repair Facility. Spread over a 15 acre site, the scope of this job included a great deal of signal work, a train-motion detection system, rail lighting, high-bay industrial lighting, public address system, and complete DC power system, in addition to AC power distribution and utilization equipment. One of the more interesting facets of this project was the automated storage and retrieval system, which consists of robot guided vehicles, 72 terminals, five miles of cable, bar-coding inventory control, conveyors and a certified broadband communications system. This Car Repair Facility is one of the most advanced robotic systems in the world.
Rockefeller University Cogeneration, high tech laboratories and computer facilities were also his responsibility.
